The “Journalist for the Planet” award, presented as part of the prestigious and highly regarded Andrzej Woyciechowski Radio ZET Prize, was awarded this year to Magda Łucyan (TVN/TVN24). The award was handed out for only the second time in history during a ceremonial gala held on February 26 in Warsaw.
The Andrzej Woyciechowski Prizes have been awarded for 20 years. In 2023, at the initiative of the Climate&Strategy Foundation and the editorial team of Radio ZET, a new category, “Journalist for the Planet”, was introduced. Its aim is to honor journalists who demonstrate climate responsibility in their daily work, who are thorough and informed, and who show innovative storytelling skills and sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable groups.
This year, the prize was awarded to Magda Łucyan, who was recognized for her program “Conversations at the End of the World”, her educational efforts on Instagram, her deep understanding of climate change, her ability to present the issue from diverse perspectives, and her skill in explaining complex topics to the public, often debunking climate myths. In addition to a commemorative statuette, the journalist received a cash award of 30,000 PLN.
“It’s not easy being a journalist for the planet in Poland. We are facing not only the growing threat of climate change but also a crisis of knowledge. 52% of Poles mistakenly believe that climate change is not caused by human activity. Sadly, this group still includes many journalists, editors, and publishers. And yet, it is largely up to the media—up to you—how long we will remain a country where scientific consensus loses to disinformation. Fortunately, despite the challenges, we also have excellent, professional, persistent, and talented journalists who understand the issue of climate change,” said Dr. Agnieszka Liszka-Dobrowolska, co-founder of the Climate&Strategy Foundation, as she presented the award.

The competition is organized by Radio ZET. The patron and funder of the “Journalist for the Planet” award is the Climate&Strategy Foundation and the KR Foundation.
