Experts from the Climate&Strategy Foundation calculated Scope 3 emissions for Polenergia Group, the largest private energy group in Poland.  According to our experts’ estimates, Scope 3 accounted for nearly 80% of the Group’s total emissions in 2023 (325,000 tonnes of CO2). Polenergia’s reduction efforts led to avoiding 1.05 million tonnes of CO2e emissions, 2.5 times more than the amount actually emitted. Additionally, the construction of the offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 will enable the future avoidance of approximately 2 million tonnes of CO2e annually.

“Even today, Polenergia’s operations are significantly contributing to laying the foundations for a zero-emissions economy. To better understand the environmental footprint of the planned offshore wind farm construction, we assessed their impact on the economy’s emissions balance. Our estimates show that the Bałtyk 2 and 3 farms will allow for the avoidance of nearly 2 million tonnes of CO2e per year,” says Łukasz Dobrowolski, Director of Climate Strategy and Energy Market at the Climate&Strategy Foundation.

Calculating a company’s carbon footprint and identifying its primary emission sources is the first step toward managing its climate impact. The next step should be the implementation of concrete emissions reduction measures within the organisation.
